School in Syria

The school system is highly centralized. All curricula, textbooks and examinations for the general education system are created by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education. Even private schools are controlled by the Ministry of Education. Technical secondary schools are under the Ministry of Education. Many ministries offer their own or their imputed vocational training centers (e.g. the Department of Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Manpower and Migration and the Ministry of Social Affairs).

Compulsory education: 9 years including 6 years of elementary school and 3 years secondary school.

In Syria the area of general education is not clearly separated from the training sector.
The upper secondary is divided into a general and a professionally oriented field.
At the 3-year general secondary education the diploma for access to university can be aquired.
